About Us

Welcome!
I'm Trish, the founder and canine nutritionist behind The Nourished Pup although we are a family run business, where my husband and children bring their own areas of expertise and help to this website, their mom, and all of you. If you're here, you're likely someone who cares deeply about your dog and wants to move beyond the noise of mainstream advice to truly nourish your pup with whole foods, common sense, and real science.

I'm what you might call a science-driven hippie. My approach to canine nutrition blends formal education and decades of real-world experience with evidence-based research—rooted in a deep love and respect for dogs and the biological brilliance of their bodies.

A Little About My Background:
• I’ve been educated and immersed in animal biology, animal science, canine nutrition, epigenetics, and immunology for over 26 years (as of 2025).
• Long before “fresh feeding” became trendy, I was already studying how food affects disease outcomes, behavior, and longevity in dogs.
• I spent nearly three decades as a lab breeder, delivering thousands of puppies and mentoring others in whelping, dog training, and special needs service.
• I’ve taught canine nutrition around the world and transformed those classes into a comprehensive coursebook that reflects everything I’ve learned through study, experience, and clinical results.
• I’ve developed a proprietary formula used in my recipes, based on the science of what dogs actually need to thrive—not just meet minimums.

My Philosophy:
I don’t mince words when it comes to what harms dogs: over-vaccination, processed kibble, unnecessary pharmaceuticals (including heart-worm, flea and tick meds), and misguided raw feeding practices (especially when based on fear, not science—and when people forget that dogs are not obligate carnivores).
Everything I teach is rooted in biology, the science, fact-finding with peer-reviewed studies to back it up, not marketing—unlike many of the “big names” people follow without realizing they often lack real education or expertise in canine nutrition.

I believe that when we support the body with nutrient-dense food, herbal allies, and mindful lifestyle choices, dogs can avoid many of the chronic issues we’ve come to see as “normal.”

What Informs My Work:
I rely on a wide range of trusted sources, including (but not limited to):
• The NRC (Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats)
• The Merck Veterinary Manual
• PubMed and peer-reviewed journals like The Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition and BMC Veterinary Research

And the insights of long-respected voices in the field, including:
• Dr. Richard Patton (animal nutritionist)
• Dr. Tom Lonsdale (author, Raw Meaty Bones)
• Dr. Ian Billinghurst (pioneer in species-appropriate feeding)
• Dr. Wendell Belfield (veterinary nutrition and vitamin therapy)
• Dr. Ronald Schultz (vaccine immunologist)
• Dr. Christina Chambreau (holistic veterinary educator)

My Mission:
To give dog pawrents the tools, education, and confidence to feed their dogs in a way that honors their nature and supports lifelong health.

Whether you’re just starting your journey into fresh feeding or you're looking to go deeper, I’m here to help you cut through the noise and find what actually works—because your dog deserves nothing less.

Welcome to The Nourished Pup.
With so much love,
Trish

Veterinary Care
Before making significant changes to your dog’s diet — especially if your dog has a diagnosed medical condition, is on medication, or is experiencing ongoing symptoms — consult with a trusted veterinarian who is familiar with your dog’s health history.

Food Sensitivities & Individual Response
Dogs may react differently to foods based on prior exposure, gut health, immune status, and overall resilience.

Some guardians may choose to rely on:
•documented dietary history
•veterinary diagnostics
•structured elimination diets
•careful observation and gradual introduction of foods

No single method guarantees universal results, and dietary changes should be approached thoughtfully and gradually.

The Nourished Pup materials are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. Any concerns regarding illness, pain, or declining health should be addressed by a qualified veterinary professional.

From time to time, general categories of tools, methods, or educational approaches may be discussed. Guardians are responsible for evaluating any external resources independently and determining whether they align with their dog’s individual needs and feeding philosophy.

Final Note
The Nourished Pup is committed to empowering guardians with education, context, and thoughtful guidance — not one-size-fits-all solutions. Your dog’s safety, comfort, and long-term well-being are always the priority.
